Drawing with a mouse or trackpad into a computer can feel very clumsy and frustrating. To solve this issue, I recommend purchasing a Wacom Digital Drawing Tablet and using it when you are drawing into your computer. This will allow you to have the experience of drawing with a pencil or paintbrush when creating art with a computer.
Wacom is the industry standard for drawing tablet. My first Wacom tablet cost me $99 and lasted me ten years before I replaced it with an upgraded version. Learn more about.
Here is a good Wacom starter drawing tablet that I found on Amazon. After tax and shipping expenses, last I checked it was less than $95: This product should be compatible with most Windows or Mac computers that have been released in the past five years. But please check the product specs first before purchasing to make sure it is compatible with your specific computer hardware and operating system version. Product description: Perfect for beginning digital artists – draw, paint, and edit with an easy to use pen tablet. Replaces your mouse and turns your computer into a digital drawing canvas.
If you think you're getting a slightly better version than the intuos 5, think again. This, thing, is, MASSIVE. I thought I was getting about the same size as the intuos 5. I think it measures slightly bigger BUT! There so much more god d.n functional space on this thing. You know the big buffer around the intuos 4 and 5? That's nearly gone.
They almost go right to the edge. I found it annoying at first. You know when you get out of a bad relationship and into a new one and don't know how good the new one is until it's gone and you're back with your X? That's how I feel going back to work using the intuos 5, after using the pro all weekend at home.
What a wonderful time I had. BABY COME BACK! I know you're waiting for me at home. This intuos 5 tablet means nothing to me. We're just coworkers! I sort of don't like the new pen that much. It's slimmer and I like my pens thick.
But again, you get use to it. AND THE PEN BASE IS ANNOYING!
Good news is that your old pen can still work with the new one. I really like the white tip with the spring in it. They don't have anything like that for the new one. They really tired hard to make the surface feel like drawing on paper. (No, I did not get the paper edition). If you use the white tips for the new pen+ the new surface of the pro, it really feels like paper.
But I can't take the sound personally. Oh yeah, it does this one funny thing after my computer restarts. It'll work for a second and then I'll here a disconnect noise. Then I'll have to unplug it and plug it back in.
I like the size and weight of it. Compares nicely to previous Intuos Pro and Bamboo tablets that I've used. I like the fact that I don't need a battery in the stylus, like on the Surface Pro or HP Elite x2. Buttons are good, there is no noticeable lag.
The biggest downside is the terrible Bluetooth performance. It is unreliable. When it works, it's okay. But it never works for very long. Invariably, though, it freezes up and stops working. No pen input shows up on the computer (Windows 10).
The scroll wheel light remains fixed in one corner (lower left, when the power button is on the left side, see attached image) and no amount of pushing the button in the middle of the scroll wheel changes this. Power cycling the tablet returns the scroll wheel light to this same location, indicating to me that the firmware on the tablet is stuck.
The computer still 'sees' the Bluetooth connection (in settings), but no pen movement or finger touch movement gets registered by the computer. Taking a pin to the recessed reset button doesn't fix the tablet when it is stuck like this. Power cycling the tablet does not fix it either.
Getting the Windows 10 machine to 'forget' and re-initialize the Bluetooth connection does not work. The only thing that seems to fix this problem is to reboot the Windows 10 machine.
After the reboot and login, if I power on the Wacom tablet the lights around the scroll wheel all light up and then a different light (not the bottom left one) lights up. Pen and touch work again. This problem has persisted for weeks.
I've verified that the firmware is the latest. I have tried this on a Mac and it has similar issues with Bluetooth. The simplest way I can put it is that this device will make you draw on Photoshop (or whatever software) as good as you would on paper. It’s not going to make you amazing if you are just alright and it won’t make you an absolute if you’re already very good.
However, using it does open up an entire new range of possibilities by allowing you to use software’s such as Photoshop and clip studio paint pro in new interesting ways. Before I had the UGEE M708 and it was good but the Intuos pro is defiantly noticeably better. Drawing on the UGEE felt kind of like drawing on a screen protector and on top of that it did not have Tilt sensitivity so altogether did not feel very natural. The intuos pro has none of these problems. It feels like drawing on paper, and has a pen that’s about the weight of a pencil. It is very responsive and the extra pressure layers do make a difference. Also all the little features like having Bluetooth, and the programmable buttons make the experience that much more intuitive.
The only problem I have with it is that the nibs wear down easily. Idk why that decision was made (if it was to make the nib have a led like feel and effect on the surface of the tablet or if it was just a plan to get people to buy nibs more frequently) but regardless it isn’t a big deal. Altogether I haven’t had a moment of regret in buying this. It has made drawing so much more fun and has enabled me to improve my skills by opening up new possibilities such as painting and 3d rendering. Wacom has a lot of very attractive and cool gadgets like the Mobile studio and Cintiq, but realistically if you buy the Intuos pro you won’t have anything holding you back from creating the highest possible quality art on your computer. Plus it saves paper. This item was almost in an impeccable state.
Except for the worned out nib that was on the pen, but this was easily remedied since there were plenty new nibs in the pen stand that comes with the tablet. The item works flawlessly and is of the type of quality you'd expect from such a reputable manufacturer. The large tablet surface and formidable pen worth every penny you shelved to get them. Driver and control panel options for Mac are well thought and work remarkably to provide the users the experience they deserve. Pretty much what I was hoping for since I use this tablet to do rotoscoping and precise vfx work. Don't bother with low end equipment. Jump right in and get yourself the indulgence you deserve.

I've verified that the firmware is the latest. I have tried this on a Mac and it has similar issues with Bluetooth. Amazing build, well worth the money if you ask me, quick delivery and the fact that you can customize the texture of the drawing pad portion, get an add on later for drawing directly on paper and blue tooth ability is fantastic,.I do not have blue tooth it seems though so I cannot currently partake in that feature. The drivers are up to date as well and am currently running on windows 10. I work with this tablet every day and have yet to experience any aspect of the machine that is a hindrance, more so it is a benefit and made it far easier to work with all the buttons on the side and the touch wheel. Overall a buy if yer in the market for a 500 dollar tablet. Which in my opinion is more than reasonable for something of this professional quality.
I've had this tablet for just about 3 months now, and I must say, Wacom never fails to take care of me. For one thing, I can't get over how thin and light this tablet truly is. With it's Bluetooth capability (which some people seem to be complaining about, but I've never had an issue with) its perfect for drawing on your lap. Especially with all those buttons-it's easier than ever to curl up in bed with a laptop and your tablet to draw. The only issue I had throughout the entire process was my pro pen 2. Shortly after I purchased it, I noticed the tip had a tiny chip in it, as if it had been dropped in shipping and chipped off. It made the nip wobble and was honestly just pretty annoying to use.
But as I said, Wacom always takes care of me. I emailed their support agents, and within a week they were sending me a brand new Pro Pen 2. They even sent it with a case to prevent the new one from being damaged. Truly, this is a reputable brand, and sure you could go with Huion or something which might save you a few bucks, but ask yourself: do you think they would have the same level of support and reputation that Wacom has? This company has never let me down. I have created cover art for a national magazine for 8 years.
Did all that work on a 9x12 Wacom tablet that is no longer supported. It functioned well for all those years but has become quirky of late.
Finally sprange for the new model, expecting great things. There are some improvements such as the touch ring, touch function on the main surface (if you like that sort of thing,) and wireless contivity. In a few hours, my new pen nib wore as much as it did in a year on the old model. I infer this is an attempt to make it feel more like paper. If I wanted to draw on paper I would use paper. So I was forced to buy (for $50) a replacement (smooth) surface for the tablet.
Wacom Tablet Intuos Pro Medium
This is utterly galling in light of Wacom's price, and positioning as the premiere product in this space. When I buy the best, and I don't mind paying for it, but I do not expect forced upsells to come my way. Score: Wacom, you lose 1 star for not including a perfectly smooth option in the package. You lose 2 more stars for your blatant profiteering by forcing an option on me I never wanted, and forcing me to buy additional items that should have been included. You get to keep 2 stars because aside from the grinding, the tablet functions as expected.
If you had not pulled this ridiculous stunt, I would give the full 5 stars.
